The Branch has been receiving requests from Parent Center staff for resources to help them understand military culture. We would like to share a great resource: Family of Heroes: Role-play simulation for military families. The simulation uses interactive avatars to help families and professionals understand family needs encompassing deployment. Redeployment (when a service member returns home from deployment) requires preparation and education for the families of the deployed, since expectations and uncertainties run high. Families learn what to anticipate and practice vital communication skills, and Parent Center staff can use the simulation to gain insights into military culture.

Family of Heroes is provided by the Department of Veterans Affairs through the Denver Veterans Affairs Medical Center, with Rocky Mountain Mental Illness Research, Education & Clinical Center (MIRECC) for Suicide Prevention in Eastern Colorado Health Care System.
